Collection: Anne Beverly Brown (Brownie!)

"Through painting I express the intense love I have for the natural world. My work reflects the peace and calm I experience when immersed in nature, responding to my subjects on a deeply emotional level and always with a musical sensibility. I translate the energy and rhythms I perceive into tender, delicate, and hopeful pieces through watercolour, using the convenience of water brush pens and palette paper rather than traditional brushes and mixing tray. I often add dancing dashes of pen to enhance my somewhat whimsical, illustrative style. I tend to keep my compositions small so I can complete them fairly quickly - driven by the excitement of moving on to the next inspiration.

Living in the foothills west of Calgary, I’m fortunate to be surrounded by the wild beauty that rural life offers. On my daily walks, I take photos with future paintings in mind, using the camera as a tool to frame strong compositions. Back in the comfort of my studio, I work from the best of these photos, although I do occasionally paint en plein air.

My full name is Anne Beverly Brown but I sign my paintings with my nickname, Brownie! The exclamation mark is my way of marking a joyful completion—an expression of gratitude for time spent in communion with the beauty of the Earth."
